The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 made some important changes that affect homeowners looking to install a central air conditioning or heating system.  Certain air conditioning and heating systems installed in 2009 and 2010
are eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the cost of installation, up to $300.
